Yearly, individuals affected by cancer take action in style for Package of Prevention's Annual Strut for Prevention Fashion Show. More than a dozen women walk the runway modeling fashions and share their varied experiences in the fight against various cancers.
Fashion plays an integral role in the lives of those dealing with cancer. A positive self-image helps individuals boost their self-confidence. Understanding how to care for our bodies, our loved ones and ourselves is essential to creating a better, healthier life and winning the fight against cancer. These determined individuals embrace and espouse the Package of Prevention objectives of encouraging others to: become proactive patients; visit a health care provider for routine screenings; develop a regular health regimen.
"I couldn't even imagine losing a parent at my age," said Theresa Branconier, a senior at Palos Verdes High School and past Strut 4 Prevention model. "I thank God everyday that my parents are aware of the importance of getting check-ups and knowing what shape their bodies are in."
Proceeds from this event go toward the Beryl V. Smith Scholarship Fund, which awards scholarships to deserving high school students whose parents or guardians either have - or have had - cancer. The scholarship seeks to help young individuals continue on with their education in the pursuit and fulfillment of future career aspirations.
